G5 F.C 13 - 7 Stoaters | Friendly Rematch

Date: Sunday, 30th September 2024

Venue: Kix Roukenglen
Kick-off: 7:30 PM
Man of the Match: Ozzy (G5 FC)

Match Summary:

In an entertaining and competitive 7-a-side friendly rematch, G5 FC claimed redemption with a decisive 13-7 victory over Stoaters on Sunday, 30th September.

Despite Ossy (Stoaters' manager) fielding an unchanged side from the previous week’s win, G5 FC, led by their star player Ozzy, flipped the script and secured the win they desperately wanted.

First Half Highlights:

Stoaters started the match with their usual tactical discipline, moving the ball nicely from the back, with Saqi Bashir anchoring the defense and Franco and Luke offering width. Luke and Archie, two rising stars from the Stoaters academy, got on the scoresheet early, giving Stoaters a comfortable cushion.

However, complacency crept in, which has been a familiar criticism for the team. Just when it seemed Stoaters were in control, Ozzy rallied G5 FC, firing in goals and turning the momentum in G5’s favour.

The Stoaters found themselves chasing the game as G5 flipped the first half on its head.

Second Half Highlights:

In the second half, G5 FC continued to press forward, capitalising on Stoaters' defensive lapses. Abaan, the young and pacy right winger for G5, was a constant threat up the flank, narrowly missing out on the Man of the Match award, which ultimately went to Ozzy for his relentless attacking play and leadership.

G5 were clearly more focused and determined after last week’s defeat, and the atmosphere reflected it. With Zain marshalling the defense like a young Tony Adams, G5's backline held firm.

Zain’s vocal leadership even sparked a heated moment when Ossy—the ever-passionate Stoaters manager—took issue with something Zain said from the pitch.

And what did Ossy do? In true "managerial masterclass" fashion, he decided to invade the pitch mid-play to confront Zain about it! Yes, you read that right. With Stoaters on the attack, the game had to be halted because Ossy couldn't resist stepping onto the pitch to find out exactly what was said. Talk about getting involved!

We hear the BBFA have since reminded Ossy about his touchline conduct, warning him that any further pitch invasions could lead to a fine.

The referee, who is up for Ref of the Year, managed to regain control of the situation (somehow), and the game resumed, much to the amusement of everyone watching.

Post-Match Reaction:

The friendly fixture is quickly becoming a competitive showdown. Adam, the captain of G5 FC, was pleased with his team’s focus and said, "We weren’t going to take back-to-back defeats. The boys were hungry for this win, and you could see it in the way we played. Bring on round 3!"

Key Performances:

  • Ozzy (G5 FC): Player of the Match for leading the charge with multiple goals and brilliant link-up play.
  • Abaan (G5 FC): A constant nuisance up the right wing, creating problems for Stoaters’ defense all night.
  • Zain (G5 FC): Channeled his inner Tony Adams, barking orders from the back and inspiring his team to victory.
  • Luke & Archie (Stoaters): The rising academy stars were impressive again, scoring well-taken goals early in the match.

Final Thoughts:

This fixture is fast becoming a Sunday evening favourite. With both teams set for a third round next week, we can expect more fireworks—just hopefully without any more pitch invasions from Ossy!
